Summit Preparatory High School, featured in the 2010 film “Waiting for Superman”,  provides a rigorous college prep curriculum to students in the Sequoia Union High School District.  As with most schools, the turnaround time required for IT support for data analysis is often long.  As a result, when counselors and teachers want aggregated information, they often extract and aggregate data from their Student Information Systems themselves.  In some cases, they compile the information they need by hand.

Because Summit requires all students to be on the college track, they are vigilant about providing timely interventions to students who require remediation or show troublesome attendance patterns.  Tracking the relationship between course grades and college assessments (e.g. AP and SAT exams) is also a high priority.  Eventually Summit would also like to track the academic careers of their students after they graduate from high school.  Summit needed a data analysis system that would help them monitor their students’ progress to make sure they are on track to be successful in college.

eUREKA! Reporting provides a data analysis platform to meet Summit’s analysis needs.  Information was integrated from Summit’s Powerschool® Student Information System.  This included data transformation to make the data consistent and intuitive for data trend analysis.    eUREKA! Reporting helps counselors keep students on track for graduation and helps the principal, and classroom and advisory teachers identify troublesome attendance and assessment patterns.

Preparing students for college is a multi-faceted challenge.  Timely intervention for students is critical in order to make sure students have the academic habits and knowledge to be successful in college.  eUREKA! Reporting helps the school to identify the students requiring intervention early on, and gives Summit the evidence needed to develop effective strategies to ensure student success, without relying on IT support.

Identify students with attendance issues.  The attendance dashboard allows the principal to quickly spot students with consecutive absences, the top 10 students with the most absences and top 10 students with the most tardies.  The principal can drill down to see the underlying detail for these students. These results are provided as a weekly and daily summary and at the period level.

Identify students who need summer school. this report identifies students who are behind in credits for their grade level, allowing counselors to help students plan for summer school. By  providing details regarding the courses in which they have credit deficits, both counselors and students have a clearer picture of what is still needed for graduation.

Identify troublesome assessment trends – this report helps counselors track whether students may need remediation.  CST scores are tracked for each student from the 7th grade forward.  This allows counselors to identify students who require intervention in a particular subject, either because of consistently low test scores or worsening test scores over time.  The last course and grade information helps counselors identify the relationship between assessment results and actual academic achievement.
